Minthorne Winter Festival brings snow globe spirit to Staten Island
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — By Saturday afternoon, Christmas spirit had arrived on the North Shore.
Flagship Brewing Co. in Tompkinsville hosted the Minthorne Steet Winter Festival to start celebrating the holidays in the best way: with live music, free giveaways, food, and drinks for the kids — and grownups, of course.
Revelers also got in the seasonal spirit with the Made in Staten Island holiday market, a life-size snow-globe photo op, games, face painting, and balloon animals.
“We come here every year,” Richard and Elizabeth Eggert of Randall Manor said while they were dancing. “The best part for us is the live music.”
Local bands Earth to Starspace, Joan Caddell and the Midnight Choir, Grounded4Life, Gifford’s Lane and the Silas Knight Project performed at 40 Minthorne St.
“We usually come here [Flagship Brewery], but this is the first time we attended the event,” said Alyssa Demeo, of Great Kills, who was enjoying a beer with her friend Reina Desantis, of Annadale.
“We really like the live music and the beer,” Desantis added.
The event, however, didn’t only attract Islanders.
Kayla and Dave Boyle from Canada were sipping a hot drink as their kids played with some fake snow.
“We took the ferry from the city to see the Statue of Liberty and ended up here,” Dave said. “We are having a blast.”
